about Taobao Intellectual Property Reporting Platform counterfeits, about taobo fakes

TaoBao Counterfeits - Fakes on TaoBao

Taobao is owned by Alibaba Group. Alibaba is arguably the worlds leading e-commerce platform, but it is also arguably the worlds largest market for counterfeit goods.

UK Anti piracy enjoys dedicated reporting facilities with legitimate ecommerce platforms such as eBay, whereby we report counterfeit goods via a dedicated reporting facility and they investigate - act (usually within one hour).

Since many sellers of counterfeit goods purchase the fakes on Alibaba for resale on eBay, Facebook etc, it is obviously essential that we UK Anti Piracy has a working relationship with Alibaba Group and dedicated facilities to report fakes on Taobao.

UK Anti Piracy enjoys a relationship with Alibaba Group and has negotiated alibaba.com and aliexpress.com reporting facilities. However; Taobao is treated differently by Alibaba group and we are pleased to report that dedicated reporting facilities are now in place.

However, we had been trying to register as anti piracy enforcement agents with Taobao for over a year. Put simply Taobao used numerous tactics to ensure that our registration was not completed. This has led us to the inescapable conclusion that Taobao do not wish fakes to be removed from the Taobao website - Taobao supports counterfeits - Taobao is a semi-criminal enterprise.

The head of Taobao (Jack Ma) now publicly accepts the need to combat piracy, and has launched a Taobao Intellectual Property Reporting Platform. But at the time of writing (Oct 28th 2016) the Taobao Intellectual Property Protection Platform remains either incompetent or corrupt.

Put simply; they use every possible excuse and maneuver to evade their responsibility to remove fakes.

It could be argued that the Taobao Intellectual Property Protection Platform is a sham.

It should be noted that many reports to Taobao include numerous cases of fakes being sold on Taobao. Let us assume that the average number of fake products reported is 3, the average number of sales per item is 9, and that the average loss to the rights holder is 7.83 per fake item sold.

3 x 9 x 7.83 = 211.41

Some reports of fakes sold on Taobao will not be valid, but many other items remain unreported. The above is Taobao report number 3,686,693

3,686,693 x 211.41 = 779,403,767

It could be argued that Taobao have a vested interest in not removing fakes. some would argue that Taobao is an illegal organisation.

The following counterfeits (also shown above) were reported to Taobao via the Taobao Intellectual Property Reporting Platform on October 20th 2016. On 28th October they still had not been removed but the complaint was no longer registered. We have been reporting these counterfeits to Taobao for over a year without success.
