Since we are regularly fighting criminals; much of our work, who we report to and our methods must remain
However, our remit includes the protection of individual and private
security (including identity protection). This is achieved in many
ways, but this page deals with data removal and data destruction.
When disposing of a photocopier, memory stick, mobile phone, laptop,
Server, PC or tablet computer, it is
essential that all data is deleted. If files or data are sent to the
recycle bin, this only deletes the file headers - the data remains
on the hard drive and can be retrieved with special software (which
can be downloaded).
Many redundant systems are resold in the UK, many are shipped
overseas and they often still contain private or company data (hard
drives sold in Africa tend to be worth 50% extra if they contain
UK Anti Piracy Forensics Department employs qualified engineers with many
years experience not only in the computer industry but also in the
computer storage industry and in the computer recovery industry.
When wiping a hard drive, we completely erase all data (we do not
just erase the file headers). We then overwrite the drive with new
data (eg; we usually perform a full erase, full format and then
perform a full reinstallation of the original software).
This means that systems can be safely supplied to charities etc,
resold or destroyed without any risk of private data becoming

Regarding Photocopier Security (wiping - erasing photocopier
hard disk drives)
Most UK photocopiers are leased. UK Anti Piracy believes that
in-house IT staff and the photocopier supplier should take joint
responsibility for data stored on photocopier hard disk drives. The
photocopier hard drive will typically hold confidential data (much
of which may be covered by the data protection act) and it should always be erased - deleted before the photocopier
is removed - replaced.
If this is not an option, either contact a local specialist or
simply send the system to us. We will completely erase and reformate
the hard drive on condition that we can pass on the photocopier (it
would be passed on to a charity, resold or destroyed).
We will issue a certificate confirming that all data has been
destroyed. We also record the procedures followed and the systems
new owner (if re supplied). If a system is sent for destruction -
recycling; we always remove memory, the Hard disk drive and we
destroy all data.
If we cannot destroy the data, we strip the hard drive and destroy
the individual components.
Regarding Computer Security (wiping - erasing Laptop, PC,
Tablet or Server hard disk drives)
Most second user computer systems sold online or via high street
shops such as Cash Converters, Cash Providers, CEX and others, have
not had the previous owners private data such as Paypal and bank
account details, Facebook accounts etc completely deleted (please
note that deleting a file on a hard drive via the Delete or "Waste
bin" option does not completely delete the file; it just deletes the
The solution is to completely erase the hard disk drive and
fully re-install Windows (completely erase the hard drive with
special software, reformat the drive, delete the new partitions and then overwrite
it). This process takes several hours.
This can be performed by a data expert or by using the correct
PC or Tablet Computer Recovery Disks. Please note that
"smashing" the computer will usually not destroy the data. Please
also note that we know of numerous instances where computers have
been disposed of at local recycling centers, but have later
"reappeared" and private data has "got into the wrong

Drive Data Destruction
UK Antipiracy can either send an engineer to destroy all data on a
computer system or systems. This service is obviously chargeable
(costs vary - are available on request).
Government bodies, companies and
private individuals are invited to send old systems to us.
We will completely erase and reformate the Laptop, PC, Tablet or
Server hard drives on condition
that we can pass on the computer (it would be supplied to a
charity, resold or destroyed).
As part of this process, we will also perform a full reinstall with
the correct software for that particular computer (licensed
software). Please note; we are full Microsoft partners, so can
usually obtain a new license from Microsoft if the original Product
Key has faded (we are only allowed to re-install the exact version
of Windows which was originally installed).
We will issue a certificate confirming that all data has been destroyed. We also record the procedures followed and
record the system the systems new owner contact details (if re supplied). If a system is sent for destruction - recycling; we always remove memory,
we remove the Hard disk drive and we destroy all data.
If we cannot destroy the data (eg if the hard drive is faulty but it still holds
data), we strip the hard drive and destroy the individual components.
Likewise; in the case of systems received from military, legal or
medical sources, the drives are stripped and physically destroyed.
